Today I learned not reading the manual is a sign of intelligence and independent thought.

I've driven three Gen 2 SVT Ford Lightnings since 2003. I've learned that forced induction engines are prone to spark knock due to the extra heat generated when you compress the intake air. With Lightnings, many people learned the hard way that spinning the supercharger faster generated more heat and would cause spark knock without adjustments in the tune or higher octane gasoline. This detonation would often cause rod failure at high RPM, and a complete engine rebuild would be required. I think is is great that Gen 2 Raptors can compensate for lower octane fuel somehow to avoid the incredible stresses of the engine trying to compress an explosion. How does it know that knock is about to occur? I look forward to learning exactly how it corrects the low octane condition. Does it retard timing, reduce boost or richen the A/F mixture or some combination?

When my new Raptor arrives next month, I plan to run 93 octane fuel as I have done for the past 15 years for my Lightnings. Spark knock scares me and while the Raptor computer apparently provides a safety net for low octane fuel, I prefer not to push it.

Independent thinkers? Or cheap?

Ford recommends 91 and explicitly states it will provide increased performance.

Maybe you're thinking about this too much because you're not intelligent? Perhaps instead you are really slow (pun intended because your truck will be slow, because on 87 it will retard its timing... much like your brain is slow... because it is semi retarded)?

Truckzor, (like MGD/Sasquatch), does not own a Gen2.

Truckzor, (like MGD/Sasquatch), posts a lot on the Gen2 forum.

Surprisingly...(not), the value of their posts are about the same.

And unlike df4801, Truckzor likes to stick to the facts.

Ahh.. the Gen 2 section of FRF... where the owner's manual becomes "alternative facts" because it makes the snowflakes feel bad about running cheap gas. How liberal.

I love this place.

I was referring to the other 90% of what you post on here.
