I think that regardless of which brand you ultimately decide on, the overall quality of your ride and satisfaction is going to come down to tuning them to suit your driving style, preferences, etc.
Just slapping them on and calling it good may work for some people, but if you want the most out of either setup you're going to have to be willing to make setup changes/adjustments and taylor the shocks to suit you.

Yes and no.
That's true of their behaviour when driven hard, but their fundamental construction dictates their daily driving behaviour.
The digressive damping of the icons and high spring rate provide great stiffness and better dd manners on good pavement. Not awesome on chopped up dirt roads or washboard at under 60mph though.
The fox's internal bypass by nature provides very little damping on compression or rebound at slower shaft speeds in the ride zone. This gives you more body roll and a looser feeling on good pavement.
However that compliance is welcome on rough pavement and rough dirt roads at under 60mph.
To summarize, both are great at high speed offroad.
Icons for dd use on good pavement.
Fox's for dd use on rough roads.
No amount of tuning will get them to behave the same in a daily driver roll.
It's nice too have differing options though.
