I have a question concerning the fox 3.0 shocks. The shock on the right is how they come from fox and the one on the left I have turned the top hat upside down to create about an 1 1/4 inch lift. I know that this is not how they were "designed" but can anyone see how this could be a bad idea to gain an inch or so ride height without messing with the adjustment screw. As long as it allows for the same amount of movement by the shock so it doesn't bind up and the shock isn't hitting anything would this be OK ? Has anyone tried this ? Any thoughts or concerns would be appreciated thanks

Wouldn't that be the same as using spacer? There is a bunch of info on here why that isn't ideal.

By doing this, you've effectively increased your suspension droop beyond designed limits. So if you run it like that and hit a bump or jump that will fully droop out your suspension it will put stress on your upper control arm ball joint among other things. So if you actually run your truck, which I'll assume you do since you run 3.0's. Don't do this unless you like breaking things.

Wait, don't these shocks have adjustability? Compress the spring a bit and adjust that big huge "adjusting" nut at the top? Isn't that how they are designed? Doesn't that increase the ride height PROPERLY?

Yea that's what I originally intended on doing but the last time i taked to the fox guys they said that that would mess up the rates of the shock and with the 3.0 being a stiffer shock anyways I was looking for a way to raise the front end without making a rougher ride. The only reason I want/need to do so is sometimes I have to run chains when I'm at work and if i stick with 37s and only the 2 inch lift form the 3.0 the chains will most likely rub/slap the fender wells currently I regret to admit I have the stockers on mid perch along with 2 in leveling kit probably very bad considering all the info on spacers
Correct me if I'm wrong but any kind of lift in the front-end would create undue stress points either way your doing the samething- changing the control arm and CV angles right only way around it is to also have drop brackets
Are there other options to get more room besides the obvious going to 35s

Adjusting the nut will change the ride a little, but I have my Icons adjusted to top perch height. No issues at all with the drivetrain and the ride is superb.

You will want to use the adjusting nut to raise the truck. Nice thing about it is if it's not right where you want it, then it can be adjusted to what you want/need.

The chain issue - if I was you I'd go with 35's. By raising the truck you aren't really increasing the distance from the tire to the fender or bumper. Under slight compression, they might hit anyway. With 35's you will at least have that inch or two you will need to avoid damage. Remember, these fenders are fiberglass. A chain won't have to hit more than a few times to destroy one.

Good luck!!!

Thanks. I do have the fiberwerx 2+ front fenders giving me a little extra room. How much height change are you getting with your icons at top perch? Is there a way to measure a correct or allowable amount of angle increases to the suspension components? Would aftermarket UCA / LCA correct this problem or is that just a bandaid?

So after reading more of the forums I have answered my own questions. Or rather you guys have once again. The top hat flip idea- stupid. Fox designed it specific for a reason. I will be cranking up the ride height with the adjustable coil and see how it rides if i don't like it I'll take it back down and hope I don't ever need chains hahahahah
