Forscan changes - tweak your truck

Has anyone here used the OBDLink MX WiFi with Forscan and how well did it work? I think the unit I got is defective because Forscan gives an error that is something like 'Service procedure interrupted' while attempting to read the modules in the programming screen. Also, it loses connection with the OBDLink iPhone app frequently.

Trying trouble shooting steps on the OBDLink forums got me from not working at all to this point. If people have used this module successfully then either the OBD dongle is bad or maybe issues with my laptop and phone.

There have been reports that the WiFi version of that adapter (not the BT version) does have issues involving the WiFi connection being dropped repeatedly while in the process of programming your vehicle.

In most cases folks bite the bullet and buy the BT version of this adapter for that reason. I know it probably costs more, but reliable connections are desirable when writing code changes to your vehicle's modules.

We see a lot of traffic on the thread for this at F-150forums, and a lot of folks are trying to find an adapter that will do what the MX BT one will do without paying the $80 or so it costs. They usually end up finding out that it would have been money well spent in the long run to get the MX BT to begin with.

Actually most people making changes buy the wired version. Relying on a wireless connection while programming the vehicle is not a good idea.

This is the one I use. $30. Works fine. Has the switch for HS and MS CAN bus data.

I will have to take a look on the F150 forums. My Kiwi 3 OBD adapter (not Forscan compatible) is Bluetooth and I have had problems with connecting to DashCommand (iPhone app). This is related to having a simultaneous Bluetooth connection to my stereo and that is why I choose the MX WiFi.

Due to the Forscan issue I went to the DashCommand site and it has not been updated in some time. Their forums have turned into a troll breeding ground.

On Amazon the MX WiFi and MX BT are the same price, $80. Maybe I'll just get the BT since it seems like DashCommand may have become abandonware and there are other OBD apps on the market besides DashCommand.

If you guys are only going to be making a few changes, the cheaper USB adapters in my tutorial in my signature work fine. I prefer the MX BT or some of my more expensive adapters because I don't want to be hassled with the prompts telling me to toggle a switch to MS-CAN & then back to HS-CAN constantly when I'm testing values in a 2-3 hour FORScan session. (MX BT has a built-in automatic switch).

I completely agree. The MX BT is worth the money. No problems making FORSCAN changes on 3 different trucks. Also have connected on my laptop, tablet and phone with no issue. The option of being able to set up my phone to monitor certain parameters wirelessly while driving on the "OBDLink Dashboard" app are fun enough to warrant the price.

Can you backup your entire computer with Forscan at once, or do you have to backup every module individually?

Anyone know this answer? I have the equipment, just not the truck yet. From what I've seen from the google doc's article, you need to backup each module.

Each module individually....it's a very simple process
