I got an email from Ford saying I have an SYNC® 3 Navigation Map Update, it looks like it's $109.00 download. Is this really necessary? I'm just not sure I should do it or not.

I’ve never done the map upgrades. Now with CarPlay there’s really no reason IMO.I got an email from Ford saying I have an SYNC[emoji2400] 3 Navigation Map Update, it looks like it's $109.00 download. Is this really necessary? I'm just not sure I should do it or not.

I haven’t used the stock maps in the 18, the Apple CarPlay is badass. I used stock in the 14 raptor every day and to be honest Ford has badass mapping compared to others I’ve used.Plug in your phone. Use Waze, Apple Maps or Google Maps. All three work and are updated regularly...at no cost to you, and with no work on your part other than Synching your phone. The days of built in navigation to a car about about over and done. That’s a near dead business.
I’ve noticed it does that when the cable needs to be replaced. It’ll still charge but won’t give the signal. I have to replace mine every couple months, especially if you close the little door with the cable hanging out. I’m basically in mine 8hrs a day 5 days a week though. My carplay stops working fairly often and I have to unplug and replug the phone into USB to get it back. Kinda annoying but I don’t use nav much and music works over Bluetooth.
