Can you fold the seats down without this? I dont understand what it does???

Its used to release the back seat and fold down.. Can u do with out it.... sure. I drilled a small hole in the latch put a key ring thru it and attached a para-cord to it tied to the head rest stem, and thats how i release the seat.

Why is the release there but no way to easily do it from the factory?

Because Ford only intended people to put the seat down on the passenger side to access the jack, and as such put a nylon handle that is accessible only on that side. There is a release that exists already behind the driver side but it is very hard to reach and is hard to do as it is a small metal tab that you have to slide up. This will make the driver side work the same as the passenger side.

Bought a set of these couple years back from builtright. Love em. You can fit two rifles back there, or ammo. Or anything else you want out of sight.

It makes it easier to fold the rear seat back down. On the screw, there seems to be a little more room to get your hand behind the seat to release it. One problem with that is if you accidentally move the latch bar, it's a PIA to get it to latch again.

On the scab, the seat doesn't raise up to allow access behind it. I had to fish a wrench down behind to pull the latch as the video shows. Once I got the seat back released, the rest was a 5 minute job. The release strap sits nicely behind the seat looks like it came that way. Made it easy to lower the cushion to do the Dynamat wrap on the sub box.

Note that on the 17-18's you only need one for the drivers side. The passenger side has a factory installed release.

Anyone know if this will work with the LMI 2.5" rear seat lift kit? The kit comes with a bracket to relocate the latch, and I don't know if this will fit within the bracket.

I recall asking BuiltRight about that quite a while ago when I was considering buying a truck and get the LMI kit. I don't recall if he had a separate kit for that or it's just a case of adjusting the height of the latch on the regular kit. I'd shoot BuiltRight Industries an email to confirm.

I installed one of the BuiltRight seat release kits yesterday. Priced right, super easy install, and I was impressed with the quality of everything. With the subwoofer there I can't fit much else behind the seat but it's nice to be able to open it easily anyway.
