Much easier to get chips for 1mil cars Tesla produces compared to the more than 4mil vehicles Ford produces annually.

Tesla is also almost a completely self sufficient company. They don’t outsource very much. Elon wants Tesla to be 100% self sufficient, to include microchip production
Tesla will "never" make their own chips, at least not for decades. It takes many billions and 5 years just to build a fab, and right now the backlog for the equipment required to bring up a fab is more than 5 years out.
Tesla requires fewer chips bc of fewer cars and likely is paying up for what they do get. Elon also ordered more chips earlier than other dealers, in part because he is more wreckless....he got lucky is all.

The sales manager at my dealer finally spoke to zone manager personally and he said the zone manager looked my truck up in his system as they were on the phone. The zone manager mentioned my truck was never held up for chips it was a “scheduling” issue. It was built on 9/22 and has just been collecting dust for the past month and a half. Once the zone manager dug in to why my truck hasnt shipped it magically has a shipping date and shows built on the tracker.

I think you guys that have builds dates from sept and early October need to press your dealer a bit more about contacting the zone manager. Mine will finally be delivered in 3 weeks or so.

That may be true but most of us are actually in microchip hold at plant status. And I believe that’s why You see those trucks sitting outside the plant with no fender flairs which hold the side marker lamps which contain microchips.

Point being not all delayed trucks are waiting on chips. I believe there is a guy with an august build still waiting. That is obviously not waiting on a chip, basically forgot about it.

My truck still says it is supposed to be delivered 10/27. Blend 10/5. Dealer reached out to zone manager...no answer yet.

No, the marker lamps do not contain microchips!
They might be having issues getting the LEDs manufactured, but they are not microchips.
It could also be the flares themselves, as supply chain issues are hitting every market, not just semiconductors.

The chips that all manufacturers are waiting on are related to saftey features and camera systems, but not exclusively those fetaures.
