It is lighter for sure. I had the Ford one on my 2019 and got the same for my 2024… it too was a MX4 for the time. It was nice too but much heavier. The new one has a nicer, more textured finish as well. I think BakFlip has just updated the MX4… not only lighter but the joints are way less bulky too. I used to have to place my cooler between joints due to interference. I believe the update happened 2-3 years ago.

bakflip CS told me that the MX4s absorb water over time and get much heavier, so that could be why you could be feeling the dif in weight. if you're curious as to why i was speaking with their CS ive had a couple replaced for signficant leaks at the seems. third time is the charm i guess

Honestly, I recommend the tri-fold hard cover that Ford offers. It seems easily as strong but about half the weight of the BakFlip covers I've run on my past three trucks. Congrats on your new truck!

Here's my '24 in CG. Really enjoying it so far. First Raptor. Was in a power wagon for about 6 years. 2nd Ford, as I traded my rubicon in on a bronco shortly before I got the Raptor.
