Correct me if I am wrong but weren't those plastic pieces put there to deflect water from splashing all over your windshield when off-roading? Essentially a front tire mud flap to reduce spray

Like everything else, save those and a few years from now, all the Gen 3 owners looking to sell their trucks will want to return them to stock.

Not sure what you heard that from, and now sure how that would work. What I recall hearing about this is that it's to reduce drag and thus improve mpg. Essentially, they are mini air dams.
