After you make your final cuts you can use a plumber propane torch to carefully burn out some of the foam in the cavity’s that is close to the area you will be welding. It is highly flammable so don’t get carried away. Then use 3m cleaning disc to do final welding prep. After your done welding you can use Norton rigid expandable foam part number 6399 to replace what you took out. The foam is used mostly for sound deadening inside pillars. It’s does offer a little bit of structural strength mostly to absorb energy in the event of a crash.
