Has anyone tried the proclip on the trailer brake side, for those who don’t tow often of course?
Mine came in today and I tried to see if it would work in the trailer brake spot. It won't clear the brake actuator it's close, but I think it's too tight. I did install it in the other pocket, and I love it! I don't think it's too far away at all. I have pictures in another post here.

I received my ProClip order today (three day's early) and the install was as easy as the video shows on their website. I like the location below the cigarette lighter it is perfect and in no way to far unless you have T-Rex arms. The mount is set at a 15-degree angle, and the phone holder also is adjustable. I didn't peel the blue strip of the adhesive pads as you can see in the picture because I felt it didn't need it. This mount is solid and not going anywhere.

Course Motorsports has a ball mount that fits between the trim panels on the center stack.

On my Gen 1 Raptor I use a Course Motorsports Motorized Cradle with wireless charging. Liked it so much I bought a couple more for our Broncos.
They have a sale running, .. I do have T-Rex arms & bad vision too… the perfect combo. I was tempted by the course version, is the locking ring plastic on the ball mount?

The ring is plastic. I’ve been using them in our Raptors and Broncos for a few years and they’ve been pretty sturdy.

I know the OP said he’s not an apple guy, but I love my setup. Bought an extra dash trim piece on eBay for about $30, drilled and mounted a ram ball and used their MagSafe mount. Super solid and tucked away. Plus in the summer months I can put the vent on the phone to keep it cool
