It's been a while since I actually did this, but I think you can actually hear the DVD sound, you just can't see the video when the vehicle is in motion.
With Lock Pic or Nav-TV you'll obviously have both video and sound, but I think that stock you can still hear the sound and it displays a message that says something like video will resume when the vehicle is in Park.
