Hello everyone,

The answer to this one might be a simple, "Nope" but there is a lot of experience and knowledge here that I don't have, so I thought I'd ask. I bought a 2018 802A SCREW in August of 2023, which came with the Ford Blue Advantage Gold Certified Warranty covering the various things out to 7 years/100,000. I identified the dreaded cam phaser rattle a few weeks ago and brought it to a Ford dealership, with my car at 7 years and 66,*** miles. They said the FBAGCWarranty expired 1/12/25 and I'm wondering if there's anything you can think of that would help me in that respect (getting it covered). Again, the answer might be "Nope" but the forums are magical places full of helpful advice.

I am mechanically inclined to some (mild) extent, but due to time constraints and workspace availability - and what I thought was a warranty that would cover it - I brought it to the dealership. Sorry. I know there was a recall for the cam phaser issue as well, but I think it ended in 2023. Anywho, thought I would seek out any ideas people have to maybe help me get this thing covered. I appreciate it!

unfortunately the years start from when the truck was bought originally, not when you did.

Some people have called ford customer care or w/e the name is and they have helped them cover it

Im not sure if you can get premium care on it since its expired past the power train but you can give it a try, may be 3-4k

Thank you, it makes sense but it's just a "c'mon, man..." sort of scenario. Here's the outcome:

1. Ford called me back yesterday, said to come pick it up.
2. Despite me sending in a video that they acknowledged they could hear the cam phaser rattle, they said the car was 'a little young mileage-wise' to be having that issue. Ok, maybe, but it's a known issue and you said you heard it on my video. I also left it overnight there, so they should have been able to hear it on startup. I left a note with the key and drop-off paperwork saying to be ready to listen on startup.
3. There was also an undercarriage rattle I noted that I wanted them to look at, which they said looked like a heat shield clamp - this also appears to be a relatively common issue and...if that was indeed it...seems like a pretty simple fix, especially if you're a dealership with the techs/tools/lifts, etc. They ID'ed it as the likely culprit, but I turned it on and it still has the same rattle, so that was either NOT the thing OR they didn't fix it. Based on how the cam phaser feedback went, I'm guessing they didn't touch it.

Pretty confusing feedback and no-fix from the dealership. I was willing to pay for them to fix the phaser and the rattle, obviously. However, they also charged me nothing, so...back to exactly where I was before. At this stage in the game, I'll open things up on the engine when it gets warmer. I have a friend who's a car nerd and legitimate rocket engineer, so that's the good news. I'm posting a video here that I'm sure has made the rounds on this site, but is a wonderful cam phaser replacement walk-through, including torque specs required. Thanks to everyone for your attention and help.

For Ford to say that the car is 'young mileage wise' is just idiotic. My cam phasers started rattling at 11k miles in my truck (i got it new). Document the noise again, call them again etc. Just be a pest to Ford corp until they either tell you to ******* or they help you. That is what I'd do. Good luck man and keep us posted.

I would think Ford would pick up 50 percent of the cost.

one thing I've learned it they are pretty helpful that way sometimes. Also, they look at your 'Score". Owning multiple fords and being original owner goes a long way.

I sold my dad my 12 superduty and at 105k miles it needed a new evap core. Its a well known issue so even thought it was 5 k miles out of his extended warranty and wasn't the original owner (but has a long history with fords), i had him call. Well ill be danged. they split it with him! I was super impressed.

So thats kinda how it works, but honestly, shouldn't matter if its a known issue and they have never been done.

I only buy new or 1 owner with a good history for this reason, its helps in situations like this.
