Well, it's a compromise - it's the lowest tent (above the ground) I've seen with a short ladder.

I don't show trailers as viable purchase solutions (except for those with deep pockets), I show them so we all can see what can be done with trailers whether someone wants to build their own or have a company customize it for them.

Concerns I have with the BIVOUAC trailer:

* Does it have much/enough storage?

* How big is that tent (big enough for 3 which means 2 comfortably)?

* What if the trailer was wider? How much more could be done with it?

Give this guy a look- he's local (to me) & might be able to customize things for you.
I havent had any dealings with him, but he's fairly active on the local 4X4 site & there hasnt been a bunch of bitching about him, so I guess he's an OK guy.

Sierra 4×4 Trailers – Jeep & Off Road Trailers – Roof Top Tents and Overland Equipment

Apparently, Sierra has had (has) some issues, and one should be careful before the send any money to Sierra. I want to make everyone aware of the following:

Sierra 4x4 Trailers Business Review in Gardnerville, NV - Northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin BBB

Beware of Sierra4x4Trailers

What happened to the sierra 4x4 thread from yesterday? - Expedition Portal

Reputation is very important me & when I recommend someone, I feel that it reflects on me. I apologize if my recommendation has caused any problems for any of the members here.

Good Thread! I'm sure you could run 37s on the Manley explorer right?

I've been talking to some friends who are veteran off roaders regarding expedition trailers. Here's a comment about running 37's on a trailer (FWIW):

"Nice enough but…just in case someone here is secretly planning an offroad trailer acquisition or build: I’ve done a few and 37” tires are WAY too big.

Yeah maybe in this example it matches the vehicle's tires, but that ain’t a great reason. You don’t need that much clearance on the trailer. Only a few old crusty dudes ever take trailers through Rubicon / Dusy rocks…I’ve seen it, and it doesn’t look like fun.

For the desert, these small trailers don’t have much hanging low anyway and clearance isn’t an issue. All the big tires do is make the trailer much too heavy.

Also, asking price inflated by 100%."

If you are overlanding (like real overlanding, not just 5 miles from the highway) 2 same size "extra" spare tires is pretty ******* nice to have.

I would agree that for most people its way overkill, but still handy.

I suggest that while it sounds like a good idea the negatives outweigh any positives. First of all, you need spare tires for your truck AND for your trailer. At least one for each even if they're the same size. Unless you plan on taking the tire/wheel(s) off your trailer and leaving it there while you drive all the way back to civilization to get replacement(s) and then go back to where you left your trailer all the time hoping it's still there and not stripped (good luck with that!).

As for a trailer running 37's see my post above.

Just picked up my MORV this morning. What a sweet expedition trailer. The thing is made like a little Tank. It goes perfect with a Raptor and are made for each other! Gonna make a few mods for a LP tank holder and Gerry Can Holder and its ready for the TRR in April! Josh at Manley was great to deal with and very professional.

Yeah it would be 100% based on spare tires. I've run lots of back roads with cattle trailers and its amazing how many tires you can go through in the flint hills with all the flint rock. Its been down to leaving a trailer to keep a truck going to get all the tires fixed and thats in one day! Does it happen very often not at all but it sure makes me feel better to know if I need to ditch my trailer to keep my rig running so be it. If 20 lbs in rolling tires makes you or breaks you then you got bigger problems in the packing depo.
