how much subsidy do big oil get let alone a ****** form the USA military! It's not even close. I'm all for dinosaur fuel but let's extend it by mixing with American made renewable fuel. farmer grown puts money in my pocket and I spend it in the USA....

P.S. Farmers do not get subsidy's anymore and would be a lot more than what little they give to ethanol production. also if they would take the blend wall out wouldn't even need it.

The video is an example of pseudo science. No relation what so ever to what happens inside the internal combustion engine. Much like 99% of "Mythbusters".
The number of BTU's /gallon of ethanol is considerably less than that of gasoline, (and even less than diesel). There for the energy released using ethanol or ethanol blends is less than straight gasoline. The more ethanol, the less BTU's available to power the engine.
Ethanol production today is labor intensive, and not cost effective. As technology advances and the production of ethanol becomes less expensive it may become a viable adjunct to gasoline. More BTU's of energy are used in the production of ethanol than are obtained from the ethanol produced in TODAYS technology.
Without subsidies and government mandates ethanol would disappear from gas pumps and be used only for it's proper purpose...party!

Everything I've read on the topic, including two scholarly publications, all draw the same two conclusions:
1) ethanol makes more horsepower than gasoline alone
2) ethanol is less efficient than gasoline

In summary, ethanol was a worthwhile experiment, but a failed one nonetheless. And besides, trading food for energy is a terrible idea.

With the subsidies gone, once the greenies get out of the way ethanol can suffer the death it deserves.

Ethanol free is all I use around here and whenever I can when travelling. There is a website that lists all the stations that carry ethanol free. I generally seem to get an extra mile per gallon.
