Recently had my 2018 raptor updated with new cam phasers, with included the updated PCM calibration. I had the loud rattle at cold start. Good news, cold rattle gone, bad news car doesn’t feel like it’s running right.

It seems like it’s down on power when 1/4 throttle is applied, Cruising holding gas constant (vs accelerating) seems to lacking torque at low rpms, where as before it was stronger. You now have to step more into the gas to get the engine to boost and drop gears to accelerate.

Car has 15k, could it be the PCM update with a more fuel efficient tune?

More concerning could the timing of the cam chain be off, like one tooth? Could the phasers not be working properly? Is there any easy way of testing to see if possibly the engine was not reassembled correctly after the cam phaser warranty?

It has really made the car less drivable, seems like it always is lugging down on power and you have to constantly give it more gas, when before it would just effortlessly go and never seemed like it was down on power just to keep/ hold constant speeds.

help! Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

After driving the truck on a long road trip, I think the power is fine, the issue is the truck is always shifting to a taller gear, often times all the way to 10th gear when going only like 45 mph. Essentially it seems like the engine is always trying to stay around 1,200-1,500 rpm. So the truck feels like it’s lugging around all the time, which is different from before. You have to push on the gas more often to get the transmission to drop a few gears when you need power, so it feels like your consTantly in the gas off the gas. Before the cam phaser repair and PCM update, I never had a complaint about the drivability so something changed.

Anyone know if the PCM Update was focused on shift point to possibly help with gas mileage? Do you think a dealer could reflash the PCM with the older program? Does any of the aftermarket tunes help with drivability in normal mode?

The update likely reset the computer to its factory parameters, it probably needs to re-learn your driving style to behave the same as it did before.

I think I'd agree with Jabronis. Take it out to the country and flog it around for an hour. I notice on mine, after I haul a load of firewood, even in 'normal' (aka 'economy') mode quicker downshifts, and holding the lower gears a bit longer. Almost like 'sport light' for a while, but then after a few unloaded trips it goes back to similar behavior to yours.
