Sorry for the long post. Hopefully you can make sense of my minds ramblings.
So, this started out as chasing down why only some accessory lights worked and why the aftermarket headlights 1. didn't light up on pass side, and 2. driver side stays on randomly or occasionally shuts off. I pulled and disconnected both headlights, and checked connections, all looked good, only exception, the lighted SVT Vents were added into those connector wires. Easy enough fix in the future as that isn't a problem right now. So, I got my truck used with aftermarket bumpers, chase rack and other mods (see previous posts). In the front bumper, there is a 12.5k winch, and 4 light bars we will call Ditch R & L (1 & 2), Center Top (3) & Center Bottom (4). The Chase rack has a lightbar (5) and Actuator. The rear bumper has 2 light pods (6), and then there are 4 lights under the truck (7). Now in side the bed is a moisture resistant buss bar box (box 2), that has a jumper from there to another buss bar box (Box 1), this has 4 wires coming into it for now. I do not believe these are original equipment and can not find any sources from where they come from, but they are there.
So now come where I am at right now after a few hours untangling a wiring knot. I have disconnected and labeled every aftermarket light, wire and what not from begin the pass headlamp. I have 3 multi-wire (I think former extension cords) going from front box 1 to box 2, I suspect to bring power to the bed so the actuator and led 5 have a power source. There are also 2 momentary switched to the right of the upfitter switches that power either direction of the actuator. mind you this is another issue that will be addressed soon too. Going back to the Bus Bar Boxes there are 7 posts in each one.
My current plan of attack on this wiring mess is to sort and better plan out the switches and what wire needs to go to where. Cleaning up the grounding point of the wiring.
Lights 7 (Rock Lights)- There are 4 lamps that are outside the frame rails and just inside of the tires. I plan on grouping all of them together and having them on one switch at some point (maybe)
Lights 6 (Rear Bumper Lights) - would like these to come on with the factory back up lights.
Light 5 (Chase Rack) - Needs to be on its own switch
Actuator (Chase Rack) - is connected into Box 2 into Box 1, Has 2 momentary switches in the cab. But is currently not powered.
Light 4 (Bottom Center Ft. Bumper) Needs own Switch.
Light 3 (Top Center Ft. Bumper) Needs own Switch.
Lights 1 & 2 (Ditch lights) Want to tie these into a fog switch
Now from my counts.
Fog Switch used to power Lights 1 & 2
Aux 1 used to power Lights 3
Aux 2 used to power Lights 4
Aux 3 used to power Lights 5
Reverse switch to power Lights 6
Aux 4 used to power Lights 7
Front and rear momentary switches to power the up / down function of the actuator.
Anyone seeing a problem with my math?
Also suggestions on what to do are greatly appreciated. As in the famous words of Gump. I may not be a smart man.....
