Effective difference in 315-70-17 and 35-12.5-17?

This varies from brand to brand and most "35 inch" tires don't quite measure at 35 inches. The 315 BFG is 34.4" and the BFG 35x12.5x17 is 34.5" but a Falken 315/70/17 is 34.7. They're practically the same as far as dimensions go but like others have stated there are things that come into play like load ratings and the weight of the tires.

Running 35x12.5-20 Toyo R/Ts on 1552 Turbomacs and absolutely no rubbing or issues.

You might want to pay attention to load ratings....A "D" rated tire will be a little heavier, will be a little stiffer and should give you more mileage...
Far as actual payload rating vs tire, the factory "C" rated tires are more then enough...so it's makes me laugh when I hear guys going to an "E" rated tire for the Raptor..

Only 2 reasons to go to a "D" rated tire really, one everything being equal they will give a more firm controlled feel when towing, and if you want to get more miles out of your tires then the stockers will do...

But if you tow a lot, did you really buy the best truck for that?...
I've been replacing my tires with OE size and rating and yes they do wear out quicker then higher rated tires, but I really like how the truck performs in the dirt with them and it does go in the dirt...

Yes...so far 2 of them....my off road antics put a 2" slice in one of them...
and my to spares in my chase rack are "C"...

Been carrying around a nice PowerTank tire plug kit and have only used it once and that was some else's truck...

Youre ignoring rocks/punctures. E are 10 ply tires and are less prone to punctures.
