Its interesting that Ford now allows for the rocker panel and floor pan to be repaired in sections. See this fender bender, I got hit by some kid in his moms car last month, damaged the rocker panel and floor...they totaled the truck due to they would have to remove the cab, gut it, turn it upside down and cut it apart to fix it. It cost their insurance company just over $40k

I spoke to a dent repair guy yesterday who fixed 3 dents in my steel body. He said the new aluminum doesn't have memory like steel so it would have to be bent beyond where it was originally and to do that properly requires experience and some luck. My 3 repairs totaled $150.

Door ding dents? Yes aluminum may not have memory like steel, but the aluminum panels on the new f150 also have better resistance to door ding dents than the current steel body f150s. So those 3 dents may not have even existed on an aluminum body truck.

Just because coke cans are made of aluminum, doesn't mean the truck bodies are the same fragile paper thin aluminum. If anything, the steel bodies are more similar to a coke can lol.

I'll agree that aluminum is better at absorbing an impact, thus, should equate to a harder door ding to actually leave damage. But, as mentioned above, most PDR guys have to spend more time to do it. I have the best PDR guy, he's flown around the country to do car, and he HATES when I give him anything aluminum. He doesn't price gouge as some would, as this is just something he does for fun since he's pretty much retired.

They totaled that? Did you try to buy it back or just let them have it? Probably could've made some money off it.

Yes totaled, points to the insurance recommended repair shop it was they who lobbied the insurance company to total the truck they said the repair would be a total nightmare and they didn't even want the job. Ford didn't even have a repair procedure to fix it. The shop adjuster said with Ford that's a weakness in their design. He told me "some vehicles just should not be repaired and yours is one of them. The truck would never be the same and if it were his truck he would not want it back." The insurance company took that one square on the chin pow! That's why I found it interesting the new Ford is designed more modular so that sections could be repaired vs mine above would need an entire new floor and since the whole cab is welding onto the floor that's a big deal.

I toyed with the idea of buying a 2014 Raptor...I was able to get one of these crack smoking dealers asking over MSRP to come down to MSRP...but decided screw it I'll wait for the next gen Raptor. I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 cheap which I'll trade in on the Raptor. As this was end of calendar year end of model year end of month Dec 27th I got a well optioned Ram 1500 for $34,900 ($12,000 under MSRP) vs a 2015 F150 for $55,000 even with my X plan pricing. Meh I can live with the Ram for a couple of years.
