E85 in a gen3

I run E50 since day one in mine (gen2) without any modification , after 4 years and 35K miles, absolutly no problem, I just add sometimes an additive clean/lube when filling the tank about twice a year... I am curious what is the main reason to change pump and injectors for those who want run E85...

You run out of fuel system to be able to pump the increased volume for e85. The differences is in the stoich ratio from e50 - e85. The non nerd talk is need more fuel flow to run more Ethanol. The factory components can only flow so much before you run out of flow. I'm painting with pretty broad strokes here but that's the gist.

While I don’t disagree with your statement, I’ve always wondered why gen 2’s only need a fuel pump and not larger injectors to run e85. From what I’ve read the gen 3’s need both.

I though on this high performance truck which are sometimes pushed to their limit with 600HP , the OEM pump and injectors were able to send what is necessary for the engine... But I understand we need more ethanol than gas ...More ethanol I have in my tank, less MPG I have, that's normal !

I only have injectors. You may want to double check your information. There was a revision with the gen 3 HPFP (among other things) which is why you see guys doing just injectors.

Is there a difference between Gen 2 and Gen 3 motor?

I thought I read somewhere that the Gen 3 motor, although rated for the same for torque and horsepower, was retuned to deliver the torque at lower rpm's. Is this true? If so would it explain an improvement in mileage (about 1.5-2 mpg) in favor of my Gen 3 over my Gen 2? Are there any other...
