I’ve decided to hang on to my gen2. It’s a 2020 with about 45k on it. The tires are beginning to look a little worn but there is a brand new one under the bed. Are u guys buying 3 tires and using the spare or are you buying 4 and leaving the spare alone? I know there are various opinions on the age/safety of tires.

Replace with four new tires and leave the spare alone. Maybe a good time to loosen and tighten the spare up in the event it would need to be used at some point. My experience with spares is they are rarely touched unless needed, and depending on where you live in the country and how old the truck is, you may have a REALLY hard time getting the spare off. May be a good idea to hit it up with some rust penetrant and loosen it up.

What ^ he said. Not a dumb question at all. About every other year I like to drop the spare, clean the wheel, and air it up to 65. After that I'll wipe down the cable and then put a light coating of Bel-ray waterproof grease on it and spray some lithium grease in the cable housing. Works great to keep everything from turning into a rusted mess.

i would buy 4 and replace the spare. make use of it. if its been 5 years since you swapped tires the next time you get tires the spare may be out of date and useless, unless its an emergency spare only.

Yep. Buy 4 new tires. Look at other wearable things as well (shocks, tie rods, swaybar end links). I only rotated in my spare when I had 6 tires. Then I did a 6 way (giggity) tire rotation every 5k miles.

THIS.

The spare has no TPMS on it and many have found it to not even be balanced. IF you were to buy a TPMS and get it road force balanced, it could be used in a 5 tire rotation. I upgraded wheels and went to 6 wheels/tires and all have TPMS, all road force balanced and rotated every 5k.

I rotated my spare in after about 4 years, and it did fine.

I did the transfer case fluid last year, may looking at doing the other fluids as well. Shocks, tie rods all look good. The truck rarely goes off pavement.
I’m kinda waiting on discount tire to post some bfg rebates to pull the trigger.

Shocks go by milage. 50k miles is a standard most have the factory shocks rebuilt at. Less if you go hard off-road.
