Got my cross mount installed with three pairs of Diode Dynamics SS5s. This thing is thoughtfully designed and extremely well built! I am a repeat customer of
@Specialtyperformanceparts - I run their triple fog bracket, their fog light harness and tail light harness and have bought Rigid and Diode Dynamics lights from them. Needless to say you can call me a fanboy, but that is something they earned and based on my experiences with John and the team they've driven my expectation for quality and customer service sky high. What I can also say is they didn't let me down with their bumper brackets and universal cross mount!
As far as the install, it was pretty straight forward. Some lessons learned- if you don't take the bumper valance trim off you will need to remove the short brace to slip the bracket pieces in from the back. I just removed the fastener at the bumper end and swung it out of the way. A trim tool is handy to help get the bracket and any harness wires through the weather stripping. On installing the lights on the cross mount, I found I could get a deep socket in on the first two mount positions, but could not get the hardware fully tight on the third from the end as the rounded bumper runs close to tangential at the center of the cross mount. If you attach the cross mount with the front two fasteners then you can easily remove one set of hardware from one end leaving the other end loose enough to swing the unattached opposite end out to tighten the two inside lights down. Easy enough for one person to do themselves.
I ended up using two DD heavy duty light harnesses with a couple of cross links on either side based on the set-up I was running. The idea was to leave some room in the center to still get use out of the front camera. These lights draw 6.7A at 90W for the Pros and 2.75A at 40W for the Sports, so I 'm at 16.15A per side and the harness is rated for 25A each leaving enough room for another Pro pair if I choose to go that route. Right now with a Pro combo pair, a Pro driver pair and a Sport spot pair, they light up everything. The spots are actually good for a quarter lux at 1 mile! Aesthetically, I think they are just the right size. Also, you can run them with backlighting with the choice of a number of colors.
@Specialtyperformanceparts sells a switch that you can plug in between the backlight wire and your backlight power to use to program the lights, which is pretty simple to do. Unfortunately, one of the drivers is skipping a few colors including amber, which I want to run, so I need to get that addressed with Diode Dynamics since I bought the lights a year ago and they sat in a cabinet waiting for a mount. I'll run white for now, but the amber is a pretty good match to the stock amber running lights.
As far as wiring, I converted the DD harness backlight and switch wires to weatherpack and split the #3 upfitter power to each harness and the backlight power off of my tail light harness the same way. Easy peasy! To get the wires through the weather stripping I removed the DT connector (which has tabs that are very delicate, so be careful with those) to pass through. I also chose to shorten the passenger side power wires since it is a short distance from the lights to the upfitters and battery. There is a DT pin version that use the same install tool as weatherpack connector, so I used that type.
The only other problem to solve was where to mount the two harness relays. I used a metal screw and fastened one to the trim just above the ECU (I have my radio harness relay there already, so I knew that would work) and the second to the 100A fuse box I've got set up for my rear winch power.
