Drive modes gone! ...you should look.

Last week I started getting a "Drive modes not available, service required" error on startup. Using Forscan I was able to determine a communication problem with the left front shock. On inspection I found the shock control wire was rubbing against the CV joint boot and had worn the cable in two.

This is an item on the "what to check upon delivery list" and I know I had done it at the time. What I think happened is the wire stay that plugs into the bottom of the shock had fallen out, alowing the cable to drop. While waiting for Ford to send a new cable I removed the LF tire and soldered the wire back together, taped it and drive modes are back to normal.

After the new cable is installed, I am going to make sure that cable stay is secure. It looked like it's just pushed into a milled detent in the bottom of the Fox shock and could easily fall out with age. If so I plan on applying some 3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive, 08008. That should make sure it does not fall out.

Exact same thing happened to me. It has been brought up a few times on here. Glad you got it fixed though. No one likes the default stiff ride.

Thanks for the heads up. My driver side wire was ok but passenger was rubbing. Now is fixed thanks to good folks on this forum that share useful info

Anybody else notice that the deep snow/sand mode disappeared after 2021. The 22s and 23s have an “off-road mode” instead of the prior deep snow/sand mode. Anyone know if they are similar or did it disappear under the radar like the torsen?

They mentioned it at Raptor Assault, they just renamed the mode - it is the same.

I noticed this after going to raptor assault. my truck has snow/sand but not offroad

I have had a question I have been meaning to ask here. I had some paint work done and somehow the wire was cut that runs to the connector for the shutter motor behind the grill. It blew a fuse and popped off about 75 codes. Once I figured it out everything came back but baja in the suspension setting. Any idea on how to make that come back?
