Drain tubes on hard tonneau cover?

When I installed my Bakflip F1 I used the drain tubes and connected them to the holes in the front top on the bed sides. There was no drilling I needed to do. I cut one drain tube in half and used one on each side. Worked great and took 5 minutes.

I have the G2 with the tubes installed. We’ve had a pretty wet winter in SoCal and the bed always stays nice and dry. I doubt it would be without the tubes.

If you don’t typically keep anything back there it probably won’t be an issue but I’ve got a small toolbox and some recovery gear that id there not get soaked.

So how does this work if you have the spray in liner? Just drill through it?

I have spray in liner and no drilling was required.

That’s what I did. Just drill through the rubber grommets. Like. Someone said above they can be replaced.

I installed an MX4 on my old F150 and now my Raptor, both times without drain tubes. I've never noticed any water intrusion issues, even through Maine snow and slush.

So they are stored away, just in case.

Thanks for the offer....I will go ahead without the tubes and hope for the best...If I have water intrusion, the tubes can always get installed later.

Was just re-installing the rails of my MX4 tonight (had to have them replaced because of poor arm bracket riveting), and took this photo in case you do want to install the tubes later on and need the measurements to the plug.

That thing you’re drilling in is cheap to replace if you ever want to restore it. Water will definitely get into the bed as any water on top of the cover is designed to be drained through the drain tube, without the tube, water on top of the cover will just end up inside your bed.

I used a couple 1/2” 90° copper fittings and some 1/2” ID clear hose, fittings directly on cover nipples and hose right through the holes in the top part of the bed. No drilling required.
