Do people flash their high beams at you?

I do the exact same thing. Except I have something like 40k raw lumens. It’s really becoming aggravating.

genius drivers around here observe two things at night:

1. My A Pillar lights
2. Thier walmart radar detectors going nuts due to BLIS and adaptive cruise control

Those two things together lead to a fair amount of "less than qualified drivers" to believe that I am a police officer, in a magnetic metallic raptor, with private plates, that is on-duty and "coming to get them"

they do all sorts of erratic maneuvering and constantly make poor decisions.

I've been an auxiliary officer for 7 years. I'd never pulled anyone over when off-shift prior to getting my raptor. (save for once in my shelby when someone blew past me doing 90 or so, weaving through traffic in a 35 mph zone and almost hit a child in a crosswalk.)

yes, i have wigwags and red/blue hidden in my grill, top of the windshield and rear window...

Since getting my raptor, I've had two drivers in 3 months literally force me to pull them over due to how incredibly unsafe they were driving. In both cases, I was on my way home after coming off shift.

(and before anyone gets sideways, my department pays us extra to carry off-duty. I was in uniform both times, and well within my jurisdiction. I would not have made a stop if the drivers were not causing an immediate danger.)

Net/net - you can't assume that because people are flashing their high beams that their opinion or observations are valid. The headlights have a pretty distinct cutoff. people are dumb.

I would wholeheartedly recommend that y'all NOT opt to flip on auxiliary lights, regardless of the level of idiocy. It is illegal, dangerous, and if an officer witnesses you flipping those lights on, there are a whole slew of potential infractions that you can be ticketed for.

But depending on the jurisdiction having your high beams on within a certain distance of oncoming traffic is illegal too. And in my local jurisdiction flashing auxiliary lights is legal in instances of imminent danger (e.g. I was blinded by the oncoming traffic’s high beams which was illegal). Hence the whole thing is contradictory.

Even so I usually just flash my high beams to show them that I had my low beams on. I’m not trying to start a road rage incident.

Glad to know it’s not just me though.

I've had my truck since last January and I've only been high beamed 2 or 3 times. I account that to my truck having quite a bit of rake so the headlights aren't pointing up enough to bother people. I think my truck has a little more rake now than when I got it.
I installed leveling spacers on my last 3 F150s and had to re-adjust my headlights afterwards because they were aimed too high after raising the front of the truck 2".

it is still going to be officer's discretion if they observe you doing it.

My general guidance for folks is that you attempt to avoid making any decision that might require an officer's discretion. As we all know, discretion is not a constant and your fate may be decided by the starbucks barista that screwed up the officer's half-caf double decaf with a twist of lemon 30 mins ago.

I get it all the time, got it even before going to mid perch. I even had the dealership make sure they were aimed correct. Well to Ford spec, when I first got it because I was flashed so much. 5 years later, still get it. Used to it now, just flip to high and back to show on low beam. Like ya'll, if they stay on high beam I show them the Rigid's

My 13 with the factory HIDs was set at mid perch by the previous owner and I've never had a single car flash me. I don't know if they adjusted the lights after the mid-perch but I doubt it. I've noticed the new Superduties are terrible after people lift them, no cutoff with the halogens, and them going for the rear squat look as well.

HIDs have a much better cutoff than the LEDs in the Raptor in my experience. I used to have a 2011 F350. The stock headlights were almost useless, so I did a full HID retrofit. The cutoff on those was very good and I almost never got flashed. They were also brighter than the LEDs.

I get it occasionally in the 2018 Raptor, stock height. I also got flashed occasionally in my 2015 F150, which also had LEDs. That truck was leveled.

I got flashed a few times stock, more when I leveled and every time after while toeing. I recently adjusted mine down, maybe more so than stock and haven't been flashed again. With the auto-high beams they are usually on anyways. This worked for me.

My luck the on coming car would be highway patrol or sheriff... There used to be a law that required off-road lights to be covered.

Got a few flashes when carrying about 250lbs in the bed of my 2018 SCREW. Was enough to tilt the the truck up up slightly. The adjusters on both of my lights are junk (high beam cable/gear seized). Going to have it looked at by the dealer next time I'm in the area. Not impressed with these headlights, hopefully they can sort it out and it's just an isolated case, odd that both my headlights are stuck though. If I turn hard enough it'll just pop past the high beam gear and adjust the lows.
