Salt Lake City can have snow in April! It usually doesn't and even if it does it is short lived. So early May is when I went. You end up going higher up mountain trails so it can be a bit cooler too and there was still snow on the surrounding peaks. They do a fantastic job, and they will work with you but they pretty much stick with their administrative rules from what I saw.

Last year when I bought my 2020 SCAB I never got notified by fhe dealer or Ford about Raptor Assault! I just happened to hear about it and I called the dealer and they said.... Oh Yeah....we have heard something about that....try these guys....and they gave me the number of the school! So I called the school directly and registered!

Do they have 2021's for us to drive yet?
Probably not until the spring, but who knows during these shortages. I remember one of the instructors said he was driving a 2017 which had been one of the preproduction test mules. All the students were in brand new 2019's.

They still had all the students in 19s as of early May and one of the instructors commented he was in an older 17 test mule. They said they had driven the Gen 3 and saw just as much improvement as between Gen1 and Gen2. I was really impressed with how tight the truck was given ours had about 11000 miles on it and they are HARD miles. But my driving partner worked at a dealership and it was his fourth time through the course and he changed Raptors like underwear. He said his dealership bought one of the school trucks once and found it flogged enough that they just sent it to auction.

When I went in August 2018, the school had a mix of pre-production trucks and trucks with VIN numbers. They said that the pre-production trucks will be sent back to Ford to be broken down to see what is wearing and needs improvement. The production trucks are sold through a SLC dealer when their time at the school ends.

I do hope to go in the Spring this time. That August, it was very hazy due to wildfires and the trail was so dry, it was very difficult to see. I was the 4th truck in our group and was blind most of the time. I couldn't see past the hood of the truck on many occasions. It definitely got the adrenaline pumping.

My brother bought a used 2018 Raptor a couple years ago. I emailed to ask about the possibility of both of us going. This was the response…

The FAQ’s are also very detailed. You can only drive with a VIN. If you bring your son or wife, they can not go in the vehicle with you. They stay behind.

You have exactly one year from the date of purchase to sign up for the Raptor Assault school. Being that they will be changing models to 2021's, I'd hate to put in for the school early only to drive the GEN2's before they got the GEN3's in. Would much rather drive the entire school with the 5-link suspension and upgraded screens/computers. And this is not to say that the GEN2's are bad.. they are just not GEN3 like the truck I will be driving.
