DIY wood tailgate extender/table in action (pics)

My dad build this for his Silverado about 5 years ago. This year, I adapted it to fit on the Raptor, keeping his memory alive.

I am thinking of flipping the mounting brackets so they pivot upwards, so the bed extender cannot lift off the tailgate stud.

Makes a great table too when camping. Not sure how it handles offroad hardcore, but offroading a bit with it was fine.

I have the sway bar off, and noticed a bit of the wheel fighting back on the highway at high speeds (like if I didnt hold the wheel, it may have gotten "head shake"). Also had some understeering going up the tight mountain roads at 50+mph with all that weight so far back.

If you paint it black that would look much better, but the wood look is to Jed Clampett for my taste, but to each their own

Looks great man, and functions great too. Just hit with a shot of black paint so it matches the truck a little better and your good to go

I would just buy a bed extender for a couple hundred bucks. It will look alot better IMO. I mean, what is a couple hundred bucks for a 50k vehicle?

A couple hundred bucks still.

If you like it, who cares what they say.

Good job on keeping one of Dad's projects going. My vote is to Linex that thing! My Linex guy was doing wood restaurant booth bases when I was getting my bed done. They looked awesome AND waterproof!

Yea, my dad stained it way back when and it sat outside for a while. Its not made to look pretty, its made to hold a bunch of crap to go camping. Just thought someone else wanted a cheap way to haul extra stuff around.

When you have a $62k truck, you dont need the bed extender to look pretty :) Its an offroad truck, not a street queen. Working on mounting the Henessey intake as well (using aluminum there though)
