If you are dying to get a factory look in the bed, or just love having an excuse to have more tools, you can accomplish this with a Rivnut Kit. It lets you install a threaded fastener inside the opening so it's just like the older truck beds. You can even then remove and reinstall the bed divider completely without needing to remove the taillights again.

I have had the folding/stowable bed extender in all my Raptors since 2011. I like the convenience of not having to remove it in order to have access to the entire bed for large items as it tucks nicely behind the wheel wells. I was shocked to find that Ford now wants $795 for the exact same part that was a $250 option on my Gen2, the only difference is different hardware to mount it in the unthreaded holes that are in 2021 and later F150s. I bought this $150 bed extender on eBay and went to Home Depot and spent less than $10 on hardware to mount it and it works great!

All you need to do is buy some washers and nuts, remove the taillights, and mount it with the washers and nuts on the inside. I found that the shoulder of the supplied bolt fits just inside the hole on my 2022 with spray-in bed liner and once tightened down it looks and feels virtually identical to the ones I bought from Ford. The material and quality seems identical to me. The little lever that you can use to lock it into the bed when folded out even aligns with the dimple where you would drill the hole if you want to use that feature. You can find these on eBay from $150 to $350 and the cheapest I have seen the 2021-2023 model on eBay is $690. I bought the one from the first link below for $156 but the other for $150 looks identical.

Hardware used:
10x1.5mm Nylon Locknuts
3/8" Fender Washers
3/8" Neoprene Washers (optional)

Tools needed:
5/16 socket to remove taillights
T50 bit for the shoulder bolts
17mm socket for the nut

I used the Neoprene washers to protect the paint, but it's not like the aluminum is going to rust and it's hidden under the taillight so totally optional.

It takes 30 seconds to remove the taillight. Just remove the two screws, pull it away from the body a bit, then grab towards the front and pop out the two tabs. They are metal posts and are not going to break. Then just rotate it and remove the plug.

Insert the shoulder bolt and line it up in the hole and tighten it down using the T50 and the 17mm sockets.

All done! Anyone want to guess what is in the box for this weekend's Raptor project?

It lines up fine with the dimple in the bed if you want to drill the a hole to lock it down when extended over bed.
Thanks for the detailed install instructions. I bought the items that you mentioned and re-installed the bed extender from my 18 Raptor to my 24 Raptor. Went smoothly!
