Nice work Mil T. With all of the upgraded front components available, it just has to be a matter of time before someone sells a fully upgraded/reinforced part for all of us welding challenged.

I think SDHQ has theirs available.

Mil T what welding rod did you use for this? The guy doing the welding for me wanted me to find out if I could.

Pre heat and post heat, and I'm curious why he tig welded it? Maybe it's my iPhone but those welds look like they were stick welded or maybe mig welded.

To tig weld cast, you'd have to extensively pre heat it and keep the temp high because the tig torch keeps the heat concentrated on such a small area.

I would personally use LH-7018 and stick weld it.

nice job. I plan on doing something similar after my last breakage. The knuckle broke on the gooseneck to the UCA bolt location. I also recommend wrapping that section after gusseting (make sure you can get a socket into it). Here's what we did to mine below. We took some mild steel and tacked it to the knuckle then we just hammered it out and welded as we made individual bends. Turned out good in my opinion and under the circumstances. Knuckle looks beefy as hell now LOL.

I talked to a guy at SDHQ who suggested TIG over MIG for strength. Any suggestions?

Nope tigging is fine and is a stronger weld, just not as hot. I'd use a rose bud torch and heat that sucker up before, during, and after the weld. Let us know how it goes. Good luck man!
