DOT sticker/marker is from department of transportation. In order for you to transport any type of gas, fluids, chemicals, the container which you hold the gas and chemicals in has to be DOT inspected and approved by them then they will mark the containers with their sign of approval.

Why a DOT sticker? I've never gotten a DOT sticker on mine.

I have never received a DOT sticker, but I have had my tanks pressure checked. I think it has to happen every 5 years. They stamp the tank with date of inspection.

I have my local fire extinguisher shop refill (and inspect) my tanks. Way cheaper than Airgas, Praxair, and the like.

When you have the tank inspected, it’s only good for the wear and tear of the tank and the valves, so it won’t blow up on you when you try to refill it. The DOT is for so you could transport it in your vehicle. God forbid if something happened while you’re off road or driving, that will be the first thing they look at. But that won’t matter to the driver, because he’ll be all blown up!!!!!

It depends on how low you air down to and fill up to. My 37s on my heavy ass Dodge diesel, I can get about 20 fills on my 10lb tank. I run 40psi street and air down to 30-25psi. So, 4 to 5ish
off-road trips.

I used this on my 10 lb. aluminum tank - it protects the tank very well. You slide it on (it's tight) and trim to length using scissors. You'd put it on after the DOT sticker is applied when first filled.

Those coiled air hoses are not recommended in cold climates as some of them can freeze and shatter

I left the top tapered part of the tank un-wrapped in the event it needs fill weight stickers. I never heard of the DOT sticker for transportation before. I have a feeling that would only be for commercial purposes but what do I know. Ive never seen a sticker on any propane tanks Ive purchased from Home Depot. As for the tank protector for the bottom, wish I would have seen that one, its the same exact one I bought but was 18 more bucks. I live in So Cal so the coldest it gets here is about 50, so coiled hose is no biggie here. Yes the fitting pack is the way to go. I was lucky and have all the stuff already. I did fond the Powertank Safety Coupler a cool idea, but its 44 bucks by the time its delivered.

I've transported hundreds of bottles of various gases in the bed of a pickup truck for work and for personal use, never once got a DOT sticker.

I have my local fire extinguisher shop refill (and inspect) my tanks. Way cheaper than Airgas, Praxair, and the like.

How much do they charge? Just curious. I think I pay like $25 for a swap out on my 20lb. I don't have to worry about testing it, waiting to get it filled or anything else, but i'm not sure how much of a premium I pay for that.

Anyone running a SCUBA tank with an adaptor? 80cu/ft at 3000 psi will fill a lot of tires. Tank refills run about $5.

Wouldn’t propane bottles transported on RV’s and campers also fall under this DOT provision? Because I have never seen a sticker on a propane bottle attached to an RV or camper. Might you be confused with commercial versus private use?
