After re-reading this whole thing, it still seems like a vac leak. If you want to DIY You need to look at the vac hoses that come off of the intake manifold, make sure they are all there, all intact. If you don't want to mess with it many private repair shops can run a smoke test or pressure test to check for leaks.

Two shops and I have checked for leaks. I agree that would make sense, but I just can't find it, if so.

They didn't do a smoke test, and I asked my dealer to do that.
I will find someone to do it or do it myself.

apparently the dealer did the smoke test..... just not in the way you intended.....they blew it up your ass, not in the truck

im guessing their excuse has to do with modern day techs doing what a computer screen says to do. no more old school mechanics around that could listen to a motor and tell you what was wrong with it.

100% yes, this is what adds to my being driven crazy. I worked on my cars and motors when I was younger, no computers, but a good tech should be a little of both worlds. I'm sure they exist, I just can't find them close to me. I did hear some were still around recently, but have since retired.

i had continuing problems with my 4wd. took 7 dealers and 98,000 miles to fix it.

i would check those spark plugs to be sure. maybe a new oem maf sensor? not aftermarket

I already did the new Ford Parts Dept MAF sensor, though when I bought it, it did not look new, had some scratches. They said it was new, however.Given there was no difference between it and the one I cleaned, I believe it's no longer the MAF sensor.
The screw holes did not have any marks, so it was likely new as they said.

Thanks, I looked at those yesterday, though they are fine, I wondered how well they are sealed. I do need to smoke test it. Though, when the problem happened, I never disturbed and of that.

Grab a hold of them and give a good tug. All it would take is a loose something. I would be gently tugging on every vac line you can get your hands on.

I had my truck in for body damage, they removed the radiator. After a few days driving it I had a huge cloud of steam come from the hood (single digit temps made it pretty dramatic). After I got the truck to a parking lot I opened the hood, expecting a blown rad... nope. Whatever tech worked on it had not fully seated the clip on portion of the radiator hose and it popped off. I never would have seen that if it was something like a vac line.

Well I finally had time to replace the plugs and check everything, but even tightening a loose throttle body clamp along with new plugs (tuning shop said plugs might be glazed) did not fix the issue.
Again, it is not a change in RPM, but a subtle idle pattern difference.
It used to be a nice steady "whuw whuw whuw whuw whuw whuw", and now it is "whuh whuw whaw whuw whuw wha, whuw whuw whaw whuw wha, whuw whuw whaw whuw wha".

I did replace the battery a few weeks before the MAF sensor debacle, Duralast Gold, and I also think the temporary after market MAF sensor might have changed idle or timing codes, even though the dealer reset them all. Both the old cleaned MAF and the new Ford MAF the pattern is the same, so I don't think it's the MAF anymore. The problem started when oil contanimated the MAF when I changed air filters and the truck died in sloped driveway.

I suppose since I am ordering a new Raptor, the dealer says there is nothing wrong, and only a true motor head will notice, I will just have to give up, but it bugs me.

Anymore ideas?
