Has anyone had any negative issues with the new style? IIRC, a lot of people had to modify and/or replace parts if they had the old style.

One of the first mods I did to the truck. Had it before it even showed up. I got the second one. No issues so far. I don't open the tailgate all that much though compared to some people.

When you get it, take the tailgate access panel off then tape one of the nuts that fits the back of the ball of the lower shock strut. Make sure you can break the tape off. You will need an extension handle taped to your open end wrench that fits the bolt. Once You get the bolt up to the hole tighten the ball down then pull the wrench extension and break the tape off of it. I forget which member on here posted a write up on the process but it keeps the bottom of the strut from constantly coming loose. I think dee zee sent me 3 kits cause mine kept messing up before I did the mod.

got it on. its the newer model. the nutsert was a bit of an experience but it seems tight. only possible issue is the cable gets rubbed a little between the side of the tailgate and the strut cylinder when closing, mainly because the linex wraps around the side of the tailgate. probably wrap it with something to keep the rubber from wearing. anything better than a little electrical tape?

I got the second one as well and had to use two washers on the lower ball as not to pinch the cable between the gate and strut. Works great!

Just waiting to do the nut insert mod, should have done it in the first place.

I have the second one, I've had mine for over a year, and it has failed 3 times. The nut insert is the weak point and it will fail with you always unless you do the mod that Raptor Embroidery is talking about. DeeZee is really good about sending replacements...just tell them it broke, and they send it to you right away. Excellent customer service, but I would prefer they resolve it from the beginning with a stronger nut insert.
