GEN 2 Debating on trading high mile raptor or keeping ?

On the one hand, dealers will be extremely flexible making deals right now and not being over 100k helps. That said, depreciation is the biggest expense associated with owning a vehicle, most occurring in the first few years. Not to mention the additional sales tax, insurance premiums and property tax you’ll incur by upgrading. There is no reason to believe your truck will not go at least 200k if well maintained, especially since most of your travel seems to be highway. It also seems like you do not do all that much off-road where the significant improvements in ‘19/‘20 were made. Unless you can find a killer deal that you simply cannot resist, keep the truck for at least 200k and laugh all the way to the bank !

I’ll be in the same boat in a couple years, since you have the warranty & the truck has been mostly trouble free & since we aren’t really looking at a new raptor model for at least 2 years or so + that TRX May be something you’d like etc. the raptor gets surprisingly good mileage for what it is. My plan is to keep the Raptor for 100-120k anyhow as it’s paid off & only has 24k now- hoping I can just keep using for “truck stuff” & part time DD & get either a nice Luxury GT type car in addition to the Raptor & Z06 OR go bonkers on wife’s next ride upgrade w/ loaded up Q7 or X5 or Mercedes & either use her 2019 MDX as our extra DD or trade it in on whatever’s next.

that being said given the amount of miles you’re doing if your job is secure & you got the dough I would def look hard @ a diesel truck from one of the Big 3 - maybe even the Tremor, b/c as others have mentioned #1 better resale w/ higher miles, #2 better mileage all around, #3 more useful for “actual truck shit”, & #4 - I truly cannot think of a better time to hit a new vehicle deal outta the ballpark between oversupply covid paranoia & rock bottom interest rates....

Another would be to unload it now or soon to avoid the 100k hit on depreciation and saleability.

It's depreciating pretty hard with 80K on it at not even three years old don't think the 100K hit is gonna be that bad...

OP you are going to take a bigger bath buying another truck that you drive like 35K miles a year vs. driving your current truck (which seems to be pretty reliable for you) another couple years.

If you really want to save $$ and must have something new agree with others saying look at diesels considering your high highway miles. If you aren't using it for truck stuff consider a vehicle that gets better MPG.

From 99k to 101k your truck will depreciate 10 grand or more. Ask me how I know? I had a Gen 1 and that was the trade out difference from 93 thousand miles to 105 thousand miles. Ford are domestic vehicles, like it or not or even if it is not what you want to hear? Ford F150s depreciate probably greater than any other truck on the road today. To give you an idea, and some of the Gen 1 members on this forum figured it out, but generally it is 10 thousand dollars per 10 thousand miles you put on the truck.

You can live in LALA land all you want but it is a fact that Ford depreciates greater than any other truck or vehicle in America today. They will depreciate like crazy to a point and then come back up like the old Broncos and Mustangs. It is the main reason I would not buy a new F150 except for the diesel one I bought as a 2018 holdover in early 2019. I owned a 2008 Subaru STI in 2011 put 2-3 thousand miles on it and sold it for what I paid for it several years later. For whatever reason foreign cars/ vehicles hold their values better than other domestic vehicle makers. Could be the parts they use are better, could be that everything still works on them 20 years and 200 thousand miles later. Do not know, but you all are going to lose 10-20-30 grand on your trucks when you trade them in sometimes within 18-24 months of buying them. I guess you could call it disposable income.

good luck w/ your high mileage German cars & their special parts that last longer...I’ll keep driving domestics for the most part. I’ve had em all & for sure liked my Honda’s & their quality, some Toyota’s too, but the most reliable vehicle I’ve owned to date is also the oldest- 2003 corvette Z06

Toyota Tundra is good b/c they never change a thing to keep up w/ the competition. Making the same thing they designed back in ‘05-07

Who said anything about German cars? I am talking all things from Japan. The EVOs, STIs, GTRs, and Type Rs all hold their value extremely well. Just this past year I saw an early Integra Type R go for 80+ thousand dollars. Granted you or me would not pay that for an old arse Acura but someone did and someone got paid off a car which was not that well sought after 20+ years ago.

Mercedes AMG and Aston Martin would like a word with you. I think the Gen 1 guys would say their trucks have held value quite well, especially during the period no Raptors were being built.
