5 star updated my tune this morning after I explained to them ramping up throttle command doesn't make more power, it just makes the last 20% of the accelerator pedal useless. I'm not a noob at this and am not fooled by amateur tuner techniques. They also changed the target afr and boost. Its showing 19.7. My long term and short term fuel trims were more stable as of now and the idle is much better. Tip in knock wasn't detected but its cool out and I'm logging on the street. Down shifting still sucks. Truck feel smoother but slower. But without testing on my AIM DL its probably just because the throttle command isn't at an insane level.

On 93 race tune I run like 23+ lbs of boost

I went through step by step with him this afternoon and sent several logs. This is obviously his first di/pi turbo engine. They run almost stock timing and turn the boost up. It caused the ecm to trim the throttle plate at WOT to try and maintain target boost but power dropped off quickly at high rpms. This also messed with the shift logic since Absolute TP was fluctuating mid/pre shift. It was closing the throttle plate 24% sometimes. The SPD turbo adapters also caused boost creep under high load. Its obvious they never tuned one of these on an eddy brake dyno and used an inertia dyno. I had him change the wastegate duty cycle and lower target boost to 19psi and run more timing. Turns out this is what MPT does as well. It stopped the throttle plate dip at high rpm and made more power. Truck runs much better now and he had a lot of "ah ha" moments while I talked to him about it. I have a lot of experience with big power GTRs and turbo di/pi engines. It also stopped my EBOV from opening part throttle at low rpms and eliminated the surge I was having. It sounds like future 5* tunes will use some of the tips I gave him. My truck feels faster than their shop truck and definitely has more top end. I wish we could log DI/PI timing and ratio but honestly the Ngauge is a piece of antiquated old school tech.

Finally someone who “gets it” on the basics of tuning a turbo DI/PI setup. I’m quite sure the Cobb AP will give us full “access” (pun intended) to all the PIDs, OBD codes, and their proprietary additional functions.

For ***** sake I hope so. I feel like I went back in time with the people associated with this truck. There's litterally 90s kids with gameboys and hondata who know more about tuning than most people involved with this truck.

no. ecutek racerom is under development right now though. And that's an even better option than cobb. the ngauge is junk.

Have no experience with ecutek, but many years with Cobb (even now on my 2017 FocusRS), so I'm likely a bit biased. Agree the nGauge is an antique with very limited functionality.

lets just say cobb got crushed in the turbo FA20 world by ecuteks capability. A high compression DI/PI turbo flat four. full access.
