F-150 transfer cases are built by Borg Warner in Seneca, SC. Last year the plant was heavily damaged by a tornado, which shut operations down completely. My guess would be they’re still trying to catch up with demand, hence the back ordered parts.

Are they trying to order parts to fix your existing unit, or waiting on a complete assembly?

There’s all kinds of shortages right now. There was a news story last night about Ford trucks ready to go minus their computer because of a shortage. ****** time to need parts at the moment.

This was a problem pre-China virus and pre Tornado at the BW plant. It may be slightly worse now but we had folks waiting 4-6 weeks on, among other things, cam phaser parts, moon roof parts, transmission and components, transfer case and components and more. A search of FRF using the right terms will turn them up... eventually. These aren’t outliers or corner cases, they are more the rule than the exception. I waited 3 weeks for moon roof tracks - the parts. These are common, in use parts but also, are pretty frequently used, so when I found my parts were available, I tried to schedule service and behold - they gave my tracks to someone else’s truck and I got to wait again, but this time it was only about a week or 10 days.

Another complicating factor - almost certainly, any common part with the current MY vehicles will be supplied to the OEM first for new production, usually repair parts don’t get priority over new production.

Hey guys,

Just wanting to vent some frustration out. I have a 2017 SCrew. Around October/November, the trucks transmission (so I thought) was becoming very rough with shifts and seem to buck and "slam" gears when shifting. At the time, it was very intermittent. I reset the trans, same problem. Over Christmas I traveled to MS and on the way back home (Nashville) it became violent. Beginning of January I took it in because it also had some other issues/maintenance (rattling moonroof, oil chance, door not latching, loud ticking noise from engine bay). After 2 weeks of being in the dealer, they get nearly everything fixed and the last thing to fix is the trans. Come to find out it has something to do with the transfer case.

My truck has been sitting since the beginning of JANUARY and still not parts in sight. It was marked backordered supposed to come in end of Feb. Then it got moved to first of March. Now it's first of April but still no guarantee. I have talked with Ford Corporate Customer Service. They're trying to do a parts escalation.

I've been in 2 rentals cars now provided thru the dealer. First was an explorer for a month. But being a contractor, I need a truck. The finally put me in a 2021 F150. While nice and I do appreciate it, I just want my ******* truck back at this point. What would yall do in my situation? Feeling helpless at this point. Last I went to the dealer, it's still on the same lift, in pieces, same as in February.
Just had that same issue, truck was bucking slamming into gears, would almost feel like I was being rear-ended. I swear I thought the rear end feel out a couple times. I also have a 2017 Screw, dealer did a transmission update, only took a day, its been 3 days so far, but it's shifting smooth in all drive modes.

I had a similar situation with my transfer case (it was humming really loud in all drive modes) and they told me they couldn’t get the internal parts to rebuild it. I wasn’t given a rental and after them having it for over a week with no estimate on when it would be done, I ended up buying a new transfer case w/ the 9 bolts and doing it myself in my driveway!! Cost me around $1,500 or so but needed my truck back. Now I have the old one sitting in my garage that I plan to rebuild (only 35,*** miles on it). Hopefully they get you straightened out ASAP! Good luck.

A lot of things are on back order, not just truck parts. I have been waiting for a gas dryer since October, I have heard that RV air conditioners are like 6 months out, I gave up on waiting on a couch after 4 months, and on and on and on. I guess it is a good time to be a manufacturer, but not a consumer.

I ordered a couch in November. They said to expect 20 weeks or so. That would be next month. Fingers crossed.
