As previously mentioned, the SRT8 is not the most capable off road vehicle Jeep has to offer, while the Raptor is one of the best.
The Raptor is a great road trip vehicle, if you see an interesting dirt road; you can take it without a lot of worry. We have done a couple of long trips in ours and it’s a drive all day vehicle.
You didn’t say where you are from, so if your city driving involves New York City or other tight quarters like that, the width might be a bit bothersome. While you might be familiar with regular trucks, the Raptor is lots wider.
Prior to buying my wife’s F-150 we test drove every Jeep Cherokee except the SRT8 and found all of them uncomfortable (we had a ’04). I don’t know what Jeep did in 2011 & 2012 but I couldn’t stand anymore than 20 min in any of them. Maybe the SRT8 has different seats (like the Raptor does), but if you haven’t sat in one yet, you might want to before you sign on the dotted line.
A lot of it boils down to do you want to go fast on the road or off of it?
