Went this morning and they did exactly this on the trade, $10K low on KBB and then said offered $8K under KBB. Told them they know my number if they change their mind, but there’s absolutely no way I’m doing that. Offered $36.5K on my Rebel.
Sucks they wasted your time. Seems to be a tactic to get you in the door.

Buy the Raptor and then sell your Rebel if you can swing owning both rigs for a couple of weeks.
I thought about it, but I just don’t feel like going through the hassle. In Ohio I’m only taxed on the difference of the trade, so I’m looking at saving $4K on taxes for the trade. I just wish they’d come back with a reasonable offer.

Wish we had that tax situation in California, it makes sense and it makes a difference. By the way, I bought my 2019 Raptor from Klaben in Ohio. It was a good experience.

So true, was really surprised as I thought I got a very fair deal just a few weeks ago from this dealer.

Dealers give you a fair deal only when there’s something in it for them. There are all sorts of incentives in play, most you don’t know about and can’t find out about.

Any stealership sales-bot who is serious will shoot you an estimate on your trade by sms or email. I took a few pics after my seller agreed in principle. They said “we’ll give you xxxxx for the car, assuming it’s as you described.” Pics were accurate, to what I described- very good condition, and their offer was pretty close to the resale market so I felt pretty good about the deal in that aspect.

I did all my negotiating, trade arrangement, by sms. put $$ down by phone/CC. Stealership texted me when the truck arrived and was ready for me when I scheduled the buy. I didn’t even set foot in the place until I was there to buy it.

If they’re not willing to solidify the numbers before you come in, they’re going to try and rook you.
