GEN 1 Cold Weather Tips? (Canada)

Any of y’all have tips on care and maintenance for winter? Currently driving my 2014 Raptor (6.2 L) I got a couple months back as a daily driver and now the harsh winter has settled in here in Canada. I’ve always been a diesel owner so I’m not too familiar on gas engines (specifically the Raptor) in the cold climate. It’s been about 2 months now and we’re sitting at -40 degrees on average and was hoping to gain some insight from some other owners here dealing with the cold, salt, snow, etc. I routinely park outdoors for days on end and regularly cold start my engine 10-20 times per day so that doesn’t help either! The more I can do to reduce the strain my truck has to endure the better as I’m hoping to drive the truck for many years to come.

Any tips or experiences are appreciated, cheers!

Good synthetic oil like Amsoil. Block heater if you got one.

Glad to see another Canadian Raptor.

NAPA has a magnetic block heater that you can stick onto your oil pan. Not expensive, very effective.

Garage it if you can.

Change the gear oil in the differentials and the transfer case lube before each winter. Especially true for the front differential as it has a greater tendency to admit moisture.

The truck got an oil change done a few months ago but unfortunately I don't know what kind of oil they used! I can either fork out some money and have it done again or just pray that it was high grade synthetic haha.

I'll check the service records and see if they were done recently, thanks! I travel mostly outside the city so a garage is not a luxury I have (pains me to see the Raptor out in the cold all night though :( )

being a Canadian truck, it already has a block heater. You should have an extension to extend the harness and plug it in. Krown it big time! make sure you pull your spare so they get above it too, and ask the krown shop if they have a hoist that will take a raptor. Other than that, silicone spray the door gaskets, and keep her washed. The truck does really well in the winter.

Appreciate it, keeping the rust at bay is definitely a priority! Also, are there any known issues with the block heaters / cords on these trucks (2014)? The multiple recalls on the newer ones has me a little uneasy.

while i didnt get to sub zero temps in colorado, we did get into single digit temps. i have an aftermarket remote start on my truck and it has a timer mode that i can set. it will remote start for 25 min every 3 hours. its enough to keep the engine from completely cooling down so its not such a hard start in the morning
