E40 to E55 is about the limit
How sensitive is the EcoBoost switching between pump gas and E50 tunes? I know my Subaru was very sensitive before setting up flexfuel. On the Raptor can you just run it down to 1/8 tank or less, switch the map, and call it good?

Just some FYI for those who may want just a tad more explanation; In my E50 tune, I’ve run from E30 to E62 with no issues at normal to even pretty aggressive throttle.

The big issue of running more than the targeted blend at WOT on the stock fuel system is that the fuel rail pressure will drop as the LPFP can’t keep up, such that the HPFP will not be able to stay at the target fuel pressure. All the while, the ECU will try to hit the target AFR by adding/subtracting via the fuel trims, but at WOT there just isn’t enough fuel pump flow capacity.

At ~E60% w/WOT I’ll get a DTC for low pressure fuel system pressure. All said however, in my truck, even at 62% I don’t get any drop in performance or knock, but I do these things in learning where the limits are and why!

So, as zGoose said, E55 is as far as he would allow to remain within the safe zone for max performance.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that playing chemist at the pump really isn't worth the effort or the possible miscalculation. I hope at some point there is a flex fuel solution available with Cobb so you can just pump and go. Maybe Goosetuned has some insight on this? I had a flexfuel setup on my GTR and it was insanely simple to implement with Cobb software.

I totally disagree with your assessment of mixing fuels and the risks. I also tended to believe your ideas about it UNTIL I actually did it. I developed my own tune, so it was more effort for me, but if you purchase a ready-made tune like from Goose, there are ZERO negatives associated with E blend fuels PLUS it allows a LOT more power/cylinder pressure without corresponding knock and anguish. The problem with E blends has nothing to do with the fuels and everything to do with the lack of knowledge compounded with speculation. Nothing personal, I’ve been there myself.

As far as changing between fuels as long as you’re under 1/8-1/4 tank you can go back and forth. The added ethanol can actually help when changing to your pump gas map.

Mixing is very easy, yep. Just know what content comes out of the pump and you’re set. I send a spreadsheet out for customers wanting to know how to blend. There are also E85 blending apps on the App Store.

I’ve asked COBB for flex fuel but not sure it’ll be anytime soon. Their focus right now is on née vehicle support (Gen 3, bronco [2.3/2.7]) and that takes a ton of time.

Hopefully one day we get it, along

@Winfield - do you recommend using antiseize when replacing spark plugs for the tune? I've heard people say Yes and also No. If so, what product do you recommend? Motorcraft XL-2?
