Clunking sound on Gen 3 too

Well just dropped the truck off at the dealer, service manager heard and felt it as soon as we pulled out of the lot for a test drive (I had them drive to get the full experience)

I’ll let y’all know what they come up with. I told them to keep it until they figure it out.

Maybe it would help if everybody took their complaints about this clunking to the f150gen14 forum. I noticed a post the other day about a truck having a clunking noise on the passenger side on his truck. About 6 posts down, Ford chimed in to see if he could help the guy get his problem resolved. Ford is very responsive on that site from a few posts I have seen with people having issues with their trucks. Check out the post in the link below.

I’ll have to look into torque multiplier, all the ones I have are helicopter specific

Has anyone tried torqueing that lower control arm bolt? I'm happy to do it myself if it works, just need to order a torque multiplier....

Make sure you check your torque multiplier before using. Mine was listed as 3:1 but when checked was 3.5:1

Make sure you check this torque per the instructions posted a few posts up.

I have stated this before, I don't think that the shocks have an issue. This is something that has been seen on previous generations of the Raptor. It was always one of two issues.... it was either the shock mount (being loose), or it was this lower control arm bolt. When Ford designed the lower control arm with a slot, and installed a round bolt, there is always opportunity for movement. In my case, the lower control arm bolt was the culprit. It was tightened properly and issue was gone. Others needed the shock mounts addressed.

So I went out and checked the torque on the LCA shock mounting bolt. 406ft-lbs, was tight from the factory. Just made sure. I also went and checked the 6 shock tower mounting bolts on top.

At this point I am still inclined to believe the small amount of NVH is from the bypasses doing their job. At low speed and over small undulations I truly believe it’s the oil moving in and out.

That being said, I’m not going to worry about it until we get a TSB over the small amount of NVH. Shocks and struts are all tight and function as they should (especially over jumps lol)

Interesting, my dealer had mine for several days and had there foreman working on it for 8 hours. That was basically his hypothesis as well. They went through everything. Retorqued ect. Certified Rousch dealer as well.

I still do not like the feel or noise.

Just got a call from the dealer; bad news, they said the same as above - however they said want to keep it for the next week or so while they have Ford service/engineering work with them on the issue. Who knows what this will lead to but I gotta give credit to the dealer for not wanting to give up and help fix the issue.

Thats what my dealer did as well. Apparently trucks and cars get sent in from all over due to the foreman mechanic who is known for being one of the best in the area. I hope your dealer finds something... But we may have to live with it. Or try new shocks?
