I replaced the left front upper strut mount last night. Noise is still there. Some of the suspension nuts and bolts did seem a bit loose when I was disassembling to replace the mount. I wish I had ordered the upper spring pad as well because I could see where the end of the spring had worn a small hole in the pad. Back to the drawing board.

In an effort to keep this thread alive and well, the clunking sound is very real. I've driven several other friends new trucks and they're completely smooth and quiet going down the road. I never thought I'd be excited to get another Tacoma, but as it stands I can't wait for the 4th gen to come out and get rid of this truck. What's troubling is that three different dealers have acknowledged the clunking, but claim "it's completely normal". I sincerely hope someone finds a resolution to this in the near future.

Same here the truck has so much potential but the annoyance of how bad it sounds ruins the experience of the truck. Pretty unacceptable for an 80k truck.

I may trade out for a tundra Trd pro and put 35’s on it. Atleast it will feel solid when driving.

I’m going in to the dealer tomorrow to ride with the technician and service manager. I expect to hear the same “it’s normal” answer. The clunk definitely takes away from the experience of an otherwise awesome truck.

@FordTechOne You always have good info, do you know anything specific about this? I am trying to get mine over to the dealer, but have to wait for their backlog. In the meantime, I would love to have something more specific to refer them to. Thanks!

I reached out to a dealer contact, he submitted a request to hotline for assistance with this issue. They told him the noise is isolated to the shocks, and that engineering is working on a solution and to monitor OASIS for updates. They advised not to replace parts at this time, since they would be the same as the existing shocks until the new part numbers are released. When a service message is released on OASIS I’ll post it here.

TLDR: Its not normal, engineering is working on it, don’t sell your truck.

This is such an issue, I am surprised they are not escalating this. I am tired of it already for how much everyone is paying for these trucks. I drove an XLT the other day and was the tightest suspension and smoothest ride.
