Day #50 1,176 hrs Temp Is still 50 to 70 Low Humidity.

I took down the ones that were rusted, these are left.

The ACF is starting to accelerate in rusting, the MPHD seems to have stopped or slowed to a crawl. Most of these started to rust at the edges and yes I sprayed the edges. The Fluid Film started to rust in the middle.

I think its safe to say under these conditions (50 to 70 low humidity, no sunlight, rain or heat, unlike our 1st test) all of them will prevent rust. I would like to see what the ACF and LPS do with sun and heat. I will test these 2 on the anniversary of the 1st test.

Standings

Fluid Flim
Amsoil MPHD
Boeshield
LPS and ACF Tied

Day #64 1,512 hrs Temp Is still 50 to 70 Low Humidity.

Test Over, I will take it down after this, no sense wasting good steel.

The ACF which was the front runner seems like when the rust gets to it, it keeps going quick. The Amsoil which despite showing signs of rust first, looks the best now.

These five all did good. But I have to default to the first test outdoors in the sun and rain. For an undercoating its hard to beat the performance of Amsoil.

On 9-2 -13 the anniversary of the 1st test, I will put the ACF and LPS outside to what they do, trying to dup the conditions of last year. The FF and Boeshield did bad in that one.

Standings

Fluid Film and Amsoil Tie
LPS (second only because the rust is not heavy, its real lite)
ACF and Boeshield Tie

In closing , all good products, it just depends on the environment you want them to perform in. Indoors I would not hesitate to use the ACF, LPS, Boeshield or Fluid Film. In a rugged outside environment I will use the Amsoil. My Raptor is covered in it.

WOW! Going to coat my week old Raptor soon. Couple questions. A few areas like the rear axle and other cast iron parts were "lightly" painted from the factory and starting to rust already when I took delivery. Should I repaint them first before spraying MPHD or just blast the whole undercarriage? I drove the truck a week or so in some rain so there is some road sand here and there. Should I wash it down good first? I'm just worried all the water will cause more rust on "unpainted" areas and the moisture will cause adhesion problems with the MPHD. It does say it displaces moisture though. As for the engine compartment and drivetrain, just spray every square inch? Thanks for all the info on this site!!!!!!!

It is not a "bad" idea to paint them first. The MPHD is going to protect either way, but the metal surfaces will always be rust free longer when painted. As for the engine bay itself, stuff like manifolds, etc should be coated with the MPHD. However, I recommend checking out AMSOIL MP Metal protector for the wiring harnesses, etc. It is specifically designed for more delicate electronic applications, guns, etc.

Thanks. Looks like I will order both. Any Advice from anyone on rust converting paint? I've used POR15 before and it works great but its not available in aerosol and the 3 step process is such a pain. Would like to just shoot the axle and cast stuff then Amsoil everything.
