I got a letter from ford for my 2011 crew cab with the premium audio. Anyone have a DVD I can borrow to update my maps? I don't want to pay $150. :(

It's on a SD card anyway first off and it gets uploaded to the hard drive as a flash program.
And it's vin number coded as far as I can tell when I did the upgrade on my daughter's Ford

$150 is cheap the upgrade for my 2010 is $199

Your correct, it is $199. However, on ours it is a DVD. for vehicles that have MFT, it would be on a flash drive. If anyone knows a way to get the upgrade for less coin, please tell the rest of us. I would gladly pay for the DVD if you could make copies.

I did for get that the non MTF's don't have the SD slot.

I would think there is some kind of coding on the DVD as well, maybe.

I say try it on more than one truck. No way they code each DVD as they are all pressed, not individually burned. They press from a master so they are all identical. I am willing to sacrifice my truck to try someone else's DVD. I have a 2012.

Yes, they may be burned in mass production style and left open (not finalized).
But then they might be encoded later and then finalized.
When you order the disk you have give them your Vin#, just saying.

I have a 2010 and I ordered the map updates last year. When you order the DVD they ask you for the Application Number off of your Nav head unit and they send you an unlock code that is tied to that number. I had my head unit changed under warranty and it took a bit of doing to get a new unlock code so I could reinstall the maps. I don't think the DVD is specific to the vehicle, but without having the right unlock code generated for your head unit the discs won't do you any good.

From Navteq's website:

* The Application Number is a unique identification number from your navigation system that is used to generate the activation code. To obtain the Application Number, press the Information ("I") button located in your vehicle and then select "System Info".
