Camper shell lighting

Have you seen anyone mount forward facing lighting on top of a camper shell? I curious and would love to see some photos. Google image is not giving much and that leads me to believe it is not a very popular mounting option. Seems very functional. Thanks.

I was thinking mounting to something similar to this. I think it would look pretty good. Nice and low profile too.

Well forward lighting, maybe not as popular. But side and rear lighting, you betcha. I used to have 6 Squadron Pros in Work/Scene on my old ADD roof rack that was awesome for side lighting. Depending on what kind of rack you get you can do lots of options. S2s are great as they are not as tall, otherwise Squadrons work great. We have roll cage mounts available for the Baja design lights so they can mount to anything tubular.

If you figure out what kind of rack you want let me know and we can figure out what kind of lights would work best.

I'm working with one crazy SOB who's doing OnX6 Bars around the sides/rear and LP9's up front on top of his truck. It's gonna be a beast.

Sounds like an awesome dude!! Would love to see a photo of all that mounted up!

Thanks for your input. I just got done ordering my Leer Shell. I opted to not have the roof rack tracks installed. Figured posting forward lighting might not be worthwhile at that mounting location. I thought the idea was cool.

I will have to hit you up when the shell gets installed. To see what other options I could entertain. I like the idea of incorporating the S2’s somewhere. I just have to brain storm something. Thanks.

That was exactly what I was considering. Thanks for the post. I ended up buying a leer shell but I did not include the mounting system for a roof rack. Wish I did now.

I am curious, is the light hard to reflect onto the roadway being mounted so far back? I am not sure, looking at the photo, if the roof of the cab would be in the way.

Curious, what kind of lights are those?

I can tell you the lights are amazing. I’ve not not noticed any issue with the truck blocking the lights.

I think you can add the roof rack tracks latter. I’m sure whomever you get the leer cap from can do it. Although I would worry about leaks.

I positioned the oversized roof rack a little forward of the cross bars so as the get the lights more forward. As my cap stays off my truck except for camping, I went cheap with the lights and rack. Chinese made.

Another advantage of putting the lights back is that I don’t notice any wind noise from the lights.

On other thing. I put side lights on the rack. My thought is I could run them if I pull in late to a camp sight and use them to light up the side I’m setting up. Unfortunately even the two lights are blinding. I’m going to setup rock lights under the truck. Hopefully that will reflect enough light to setup a camp sight without blinding me.

I have a 40" Baja Designs onX6 Racer bar on mine upfront. It is mounted so it's flush to the surface of the rack and it doesn't provide any additional height. I get zero noise from it and the Racer version projects light far enough forward and in such a tight beam that I have no issues with hood reflection or not enough projection. I also have 2 Rigid 6" bars with amber covers facing the rear tucked underneath the rack. They are pretty hidden until they get turned on. Those produce an incredible amount of light up very high for dust lights and are excellent for running during the day. At night I have some smaller dust lights that won't blind the people behind me because the Rigids are kind of overkill for that application. The Rigids are great for backing into really dark areas where the under-bumper mounted S-2's struggle to provide enough throw to really see behind you.
