Hi all,
I just came back from the service company where I left my car to have the camphasers + timing set replaced.
Surprisingly there is a new camphaser part i ML3Z-6C525-A. I should have my car back on Monday and
I am so hoping they won't hurt it :) Anyone knows here if there is any software update needed alng with the change?
I have Raptor 2018 still with the CD changer...

Cheers!

As mentioned earlier, recall 21B10 is the new software. The TSB still specifies the HL3Z part number, the ML3Z can be substituted if HL3Z is not available.

Hi,
I have the car back, new phasers, timing chains, guides, tensioneres and a read break set. The engine is now way more silent. No tapping from the top side and all various knocks around are gone (except for wastegates).
No sw upgrade was done along...
Maybe I am picky but I feel like the car lost power, like I was carrying a heavy trailer.
Hope it is just related to the rear breaks, the discs are very hot but on neutral the car moves easily.
Or maybe the gearbox is in relearning process. Will give it some time and see... So far I am at least 50% happy :)

Apologies for resurrecting this thread but I figured it would be best to add my experience to this thread instead of creating my own and cluttering this forum.

After an extensive search of a used raptor that had good service history (proven regular oil changes in OASIS and Carfax), cam phaser recall completed (both software and hardware), decent mileage and good price with all options. Long story short, found just the truck that fit all criteria.

After almost 3 months of ownership all of the sudden, overnight, cam phaser rattle. No other issues, no cell, or any other indication of problems.

Since the truck was CPO, I immediately brought the truck to the dealer (different than the one I purchased from). Rattle heard on Friday, appt was made for Monday.

Dealer called me back and said that in 2021, the previous dealer installed old revision cam phasers and approved for cam phaser replacement under warranty along with chain, guides, and whatever else is typically involved in the process as part of the full services.

This got me worried because I thought in 2021, the latest revision was implemented so I checked the paperwork for phasers replaced in 2021. I guess I am a bit stumped because I thought HL3Z-CD was the latest revision (that is what my paperwork says was done in 2021). Wondering why the dealer told me it’s not… Am I missing something?

In any case, just wanted to add my data point to all the numerous cam phaser threads. Would be curious what you guys think.

Found this video that talks about the difference between HL3Z and ML3Z cam phasers. Apparently per the video, ML3Z is the latest phaser.

I’m still surprised that we are still talking about this issue here in 2024.
