They probably mentioned the issue because they’ve been burned by it before. It will continue to destroy cam phasers because they’ll be starved of oil. The scoring can also get worse due to oil bleed off through the journals.

On a 2018, list price for a long block is $7332. The warranty time to replace the long block is 9.5 hours, so to calculate customer pay time add 40%, which is 13.3 hours. Even at $200 an hour, that’s still only $2660 in labor. That $25k estimate is simply ridiculous.
I showed them the price of the long block on ford.com parts site, which was what you said here $7332, they were feeding me something about “matrix pricing” but couldn’t explain to me what that meant, but have now updated the quote to reflect that price, they still want to charge me $19k for parts/labor.

Subsequently, went in yesterday to have them physically show me the damage, they had since moved the truck outside and put the valve covers back on, I told them to open it, they said the tech was at lunch and couldn’t open it until the next day because it had to be moved back inside and he was in the middle of another job.

I’m going to see if I can get another quote. I’ll dm you the quote they sent me and you can see what the are charging me for.

Where in CA are you?

There are a couple dealers near me in northern CA and one is shit like that and the other one is very good...or as good as you can expect from a dealer.

UPDATE: So to touch back on this and give some more updates, truck went to capitol ford, got them to do it for $15k, that being said, just got it back yesterday after they had my truck for a month. 4 different ETAs missed, lack of transparency in communication, and all around a pretty bad experience. They ended up destroying my radiator when pulling the old long block so they replaced that, and they also somehow broke the oil cooler so that was replaced as well. They offered me a rental after 3 weeks telling me that their tech got pulled from my job because other jobs had parts come in they were waiting for.

Overall it drives fine, upon first few miles. Now I feel like there’s a boost leak somewhere. When I press moderately on the gas, the turbos spool very very loudly and I feel like I’m just making noise and not making boost. Checked all the piping and it all looks good, BOV looks ok, doesn’t throw codes but I really don’t want to take it back to the dealer. Any thoughts or has anyone else experienced an issue like this?

Minor update: so the loud spooling sound on moderate acceleration is now intermittent. i cant seem to figure out what the cause is, but im now leaning more towards the BOV? it will sometimes be loud and feel like its down on power, then other times sounds normal with alot of torque and feel good. i do notice when i get onto it a little and build boost then let off and the BOV actually does the vent to atmosphere, that after that it will go back to the loud spooling/low torque mode. Then sometimes it will be in the loud spooling/low torque mode and if i keep adding throttle, it will feel like something closed and be back to quite and making torque like normal again. Im wondering if it has something to do with the truck going through some kind of "learning phase" since it currently only has like 120 miles on the new motor.

it only started doing this after i took off my @GooseTuned map an flashed back to OEM the after my first visit to the dealer about a month ago. left it OEM for the week or so between the dealer looking at it and having it back in to get the job done. so not sure if it has something to do with software? or maybe its just a bad connection on the BOV? btw its the turbosmart vee port BOV, and since noticing this, ive read that theres been issues with them not being reliable after a period of time. idk, just kinda at a loss at this point of what to look for?
