I've taken my dispute a little higher and will lawyer up if need be. Make sure you save all of your paperwork, document everything, and don't don't hesitate to take it to a dealer as soon as you have an issue.

It's back in with the same noise. They've tried replacing the lifters, timing chain and tensioners. Now they're talking to the Ford Performance hotline to try to figure out what to do next. The mechanic wants to replace the engine, but Ford won't agree to it.

did you receive any pushback due to your mods? thanks

No, but the high flow cats are causing a CEL. Dealer said it won't hurt anything, but I have the SPD O2 extender that claims to fix it. If I ever get the truck back from the dealer, I'll install it to verify. Total of 12 weeks between the three times it's been in for this, and counting.

So far, mine (mid-2017) hasn’t had the issue, but I’ve only got 14k miles. However, my friend ordered an identical one at the same time, his was built three weeks earlier. He’s got 32k miles and his has been in the shop for over two weeks now. His service guy told him it was this issue. Last night he called and told me they said at least another week and if their latest attempt doesn’t fix, they’ll replace the engine. Then he told him they’ve replaced “quite a few” Gen 2 engines thus far.

I’m out. Trading mine in on something a little more proven like a Super Duty. Last two F-150s I’ve had were both 11 and 10 years old when I sold them and both were very solid trucks (not the fastest, but quiet and did the truck thing great). I’m just really disappointed to see this problem popping up for these Gen 2s because I think both Gen 1 and Gen 2 are just so cool and have such a fun factor to them. That said, it’s a daily driver (not just a weekend/race toy) and spends time in the mountains in Colorado and big engine issues really concern me.

Sorry to see so many folks fighting the issue. I hope your local service d department are as helpful as the one my friend has (not sure what dealer he has it at, but I’ll ask).

my 2018 (oct build) 7,*** miles now has a tick on cold start up where the truck has been sitting for 3-4 days. Goes away in 3-5 seconds. The noise wont come back unless the truck sits for 3-4 days again.

I think I am safe as this seems normal. The oil has just all drained back into the pan.
Same here, Aug/18 build date
Cold Start ticking that I called Ford customer service today under advice of Service Rep at my local dealership.
Now have a Case # - not that it will make much difference in the speed in which they fix the issue.
The Rep told me there is a 2017 SCREW in the back of the lot with a broken Transmission that's been there for over a year. No resolution so they gave the guy a 2018 SCREW in exchange.

Anyone have a video of the sound? Curious to know what to be on the lookout for. $4k isn’t cheap but isn’t as bad as I thought it might be. Maybe getting a tune will be in my future

That is nuts.... Have you considered asking for a buy back or replacement?

Not yet, but when I get ahold of the customer service manager again I am going to begin that request. Also considering selling it whenever I get it back and getting a gen 1 until Ford puts something reliable in these things. I love the truck, but paying for it and not being able to drive it 1/4 of the time I own it is ridiculous.

@pastorwug - video of mine is on page 15 of this thread
