So my dealer has been unable to diagnose a problem that occurs after the truck is warm. It's a buzzing sound coming from somewhere around the motor but I can't pin point it. The truck needs to be warm to hear it, for example if I drive home from work which is 20 minutes doing about 70 km/h, I hear it and it seems louder when in gear as opposed to park.

Here's a video of it: YouTube

Sorry for the crappy quality. The sound starts at 20 seconds in...It's really loud when going through a drive through or crossing the border when you get by a wall etc. Border guards have asked if my truck was going to make it...lol.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Idler pulleys on each side of the alternator were replaced and still have the issue... I thought that was going to solve it but no. Seems louder underneath the truck but hard to tell for sure.

Hi killswitch engage,

I will be happy to assist. Please pass on the current odometer reading of your vehicle; I will research the available resources. Dealerships are owned and operated independently; for a second opinion on the diagnosis, I recommend choosing a new dealer. To help locate one, click on this link: Locate a Dealer Search | Official Site of Ford Vehicles | Ford.ca Also try booking an appointment upon selecting your new dealer.

Thanks Kwasi, but the next closest dealer is 3-4 hours away.

That being said, my dealer has always been really good to me and I'm sure they can solve it. But they aren't going to drive around for 20-30 minutes trying to get it warm enough to hear the noise and it's usually cold when they pull it in to work on it.

Now that I have a recording of the noise, hopefully that will help them diagnose it. Or at least get them to bring it in when it's still warm when I drop it off.

I was hoping for some input on the forums to help me, help them since I have just over 59k km on it and warranty is coming to an end...

Hi killswitch engage,

Thank you for the updates. It is good to know your dealer takes great pride in assisting you. I agree that the video will be helpful in diagnosing the issue. Please get back to me with the results; I will look into the available options. Have a great week-end.

Update

Just to let everyone know, I spend the last three nights crawling around under my truck in the dirt trying to figure out the noise cause it was driving me absolutely nuts.

Turns out, it's the oil dipstick tube rattling.

I'm not sure why, but when it or the brackets holding it gets hot, it must expand enough to give it some play. Maybe it's not seated properly? I'm not sure. I'll have my dealership check it out.
