so your sating as long as the radio is within the 150-160 range ill be good?

Sort of. If it's a marine radio you can't physically key in frequencies, it will only operate on the marine channels. Which fall in the 150-160 range. It just so happens that you Can key those frequencies into a regular VHF, and its possible that I'll have a radio on those frequencies at the run in case of marine distress only.

Pat, if you're gonna buy something don't look much further than the radio suggested by Mark. That does everything we'll need it to do and then some.

I'll have to agree that the wuxey seems pretty handy. I got a Yaesu VX-7 recently, but the wux looks like a better deal.

there are 3 different ones ones which one do it need to get the one with
V: 136-174, U: 350-470 MHz V: 144-148, U: 420-450 MHz

V: 136-174, U: 420-520 MHz V: 144-148, U: 420-450 MHz

V: 136-174, V: 216-280 MHz V: 144-148, V: 223-225 MHz
