Greg,
It sounds like there will be others that have the software/cable at this run so you will probably be in the clear for now. Its up to you on if you want to have the ability to program your radio, but it sounds like the frequencies can change depending on a lot of things. As armatures (esp those w/o a license) we have to be vigilant of registered users and make sure we are using vacant feqs and not stepping on anyone using their radio for official business. Shouldn't be tooooo much of an issue in nowhere TX but might be harder in other areas. You also might want to tune into specific freqs at races and such so I would think it would be very handy to have.

Just ordered the same antenna as you Trey, thanks for the suggestion! One question, is the whip black or silver? Just curious because the picture is black, but the description says "stainless"...?

I think there is a black version and stainless. **Top Tip, your radio is dual band and this antenna is tuned for VHf only :(**

Cine,
Order radio from Raptoraddict (kirk) and gets them from PCI.. So it should be good to go... I just want to make sure I am reachable during Texas Run and any future runs.

Finally got my icom installed. Have not a clue how to use it just yet, but I'm looking forward to it! I mounted it in the inside of the center console on the front wall. That way it can be hidden. Also made it constant power. Now, I didn't add an external speaker per se, I just ran it to my center dash speaker and spliced it in with a relay to keep it from sending interference to the truck radio. Works great. My next mod is to splice that signal again, run it through an aux switch and hook it up to my siren pa speaker in the grill in case we want to monitor out of the truck parked.

Thats a good idea with the center speaker. How does it sound? Better than the built-in speaker? I'm thinking of hooking mine up to one of the Aux inputs on my NavTV. For those that don't have a lockpick or NavTV you could easily plug it into the mini jack aux input...
